Beginning Adults There’s that
feeling again. You know the one – the one you get every time you go to a
friend’s house with a nice piano or see a piano being played somewhere. And you
say to yourself “I wish I could do that.” Are you one of the countless
many who say “I used to take piano lessons when I was young; now I wish I’d
never quit?” But learning to play an instrument is for the young. It’s too
late for me….right?” Wrong!!
If you have ever vacationed
abroad, you have probably made some effort to familiarize yourself with enough
of the foreign language for basic communication. Do you remember how good it
felt the first time you spoke a phrase in that new language that was
understood? Learning to read music and play piano is much the same – it’s
simply a new language of symbols that we communicate with our fingers instead of
our mouths.
If you really want to play the
piano and you have the time to practice even one half hour a day, you already
possess the two most important elements to be successful – desire and
opportunity. The other elements are the same required to master any skill
– practice, patience, and dedication.
For most adults, it's not about
achieving Carnegie Hall, but having the fun and relaxation of being able to play
your favorite songs to an enjoyable level.
Music is a universal language
and learning to communicate your first “musical sentences” will bring you joy
that will last a lifetime.
