Console Pianos (Height 40″ – 44″)
Console pianos are several inches taller than the spinet, thus the console upright piano combines longer strings, larger soundboard, and a direct blow action (in most cases) which improves the overall quality of sound and playing touch. The console piano, due to the design of the parts inside, is easier worked on and therefore less costly to maintain when adjustments are necessary. Several styles of cabinetry are available from traditional to contemporary.
Studio Pianos (Height 45″ – 46″)
The studio piano is for those who desire a fuller, deeper tone than possible with most console upright pianos. The studio also has an excellent playing touch. A studio piano places more emphasis on the quality of musical tone and touch and is recommended for anyone who places a higher priority on tonal quality rather than a wide choice of cabinet style and finish.
Professional Pianos (Height 47″ – 53″)
For many eras, if one desired the best in piano touch and quality of sound they purchased a grand piano. Designed & built primarily in the last 50 years, the professional upright piano has been designed as a substitute for smaller grand pianos. The professional upright, not to be confused with the “old uprights” that were built between the years of 1850 and 1930, has exceptional tonal quality and plays as well as or better than certain grand pianos. If floor space is an issue or one prefers to spend less than the cost of an equal quality grand piano, select a professional upright piano.
